I have been trying to figure out how to use the Marching Percussion Sound Font with Finale® for some time now and finally got it to work. These are documents that I collected from the web which helped me get it done. Please don't email for help! I'd love to, but honestly, all I can do is point you back to this page.

How the devil can I.....? This thread from the percussion forum on DCP explains a
good way to have finale playback diddles easily
I dunno if Finale 2002 has it or not, but in 2003 go to
"Plug-ins", select "TG tools" then "smart playback"...that should work...I dunno if 2002 has that though...hope this
helps.
